It has been a little while since I have been able to make updates. Much has happened since I last posted. Here are the latest builds.

Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Flying Reptile 2nd Build
I had been wanting to try a black and red color scheme for this kit and I think it turned out pretty well. It goes along with the Tamiya pteranodon that I just built.

Tamiya Pteranodon 2nd Build
This was my second attempt at doing this kit. The first was a gift for a dear friend. This one was for me. I thought it look cool to do it in a black and red color scheme. I am happy with how the colors turned out.

Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Complete Collection
This was the fulfillment of a childhood dream. As a kid, I had always wanted to build all the kits and then put them together as shown on the map that came with the its. The idea was that the kit would inter-connect to make one big diorama. Finally, I was an;e to make that happen. Now that I have done it, I th k the final display is a bit busy. Still, it was a life goal accomplished.

Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Cave With Unboxing
This has to be my least favorite of the whole series. It could have easily been named the Malibu Barbie Dream Cave seeing as it s clearly designed as a kids playlet. The base was and roof are problematic to assemble and gaps abound. I was ga=lad to have built it but still, was an adult model builder, it was disappointing..

Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Jungle Swamp
Some aspects of this kit are really cool and some are really disappointing. On the cool side, there are lots of different animals that one could paint in any number of creative ways. On the not so cool side, the base is small and not large enough to accommodate all the figure. Also, the trees are very unstable and fall over easily. I have a sneaking suspicion that this was intended as a prehistoric playlet for children. I had fun building it but the kit could have been designed better.

Nameplate Holders
I love nameplates but a lot of the models don’t have a good way to display them. To that end, I made some nameplate holders that give them a nice presentation.

Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Sail Back Reptile (Dimetrodon)
Another fun build. Previously I have used this same color scheme for a build of the Lindberg dimetrodon. I think it worked really well here, too. In has a few small creatures that come with it, I was particularly please with what I call the Whataburger salamander. It also had a dragonfly that I put on a clear rod to make it look like it was in flight.

Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Allosaurus
When i was a kid, I had seen this kit and alway thought it would be cool to build it. Finally, I had my change. It was a pretty straight forward build I like how the paint job turned out. The little volcano was fun to do.

Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Giant Bird (Phororhacos)
These are also known as terror birds and, given their size, the earned the name. Overall, this was a fun build. Though, I generally am not a fan of the two part bases. I am happy with how the paint scheme turned out. I have to admit that the little flying lizard is amusing.

Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Spiked Dinosaur (Styracosaurs)
Meet Styracosaurus. This is a model I did in honor of a dear friend. It is based off him and the costume he wears when performing at renaissance fairs. This kit is very similar to the Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Three Horned Dinosaur (Triceratops).. It was a fun build. Overall, I am pretty happy with how it came out.

Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Cro-Magnon Man
This was a fun trip down memory lane. I had built this as a kid. It was fun to come back to it. I have so much to learn about figure painting.

Wednesday, 05JUN24
Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Cro-Magnon Woman
I had built this kit as a child. It was great to revisit it. It was fun to build but I have a lot to learn about figure painting.

Painting Nameplatest
This is a documentation of my process for painting nameplates. While this is not intended as a tutorial, hopefully it will be informative..

Paint Stripping For Models
It is not uncommon for me to have to strip paint off kits I get off eBay. This is how I do it.

Saturday, 18MAY24
Wilma Flintstone
I did not realize that this kit was so tiny when I bought it off eBay. I think I am going to need more practice painting such small things.

Monday, 13MAY24
Loana from One Million Years B.C.
This kind of kit is not my usual fare but it was too iconic not to do.

Monday, 13MAY24
Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Armored Dinosaur (Ankylosaurus)
I got this kit of eBay and, as is often the case, it came partially assembled and partially painted. Some stripping of paint and creating of parts was needed.

Friday, 03MAY24
Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Cave Bear
This is one of the kits I has seen as a kid but never got around to buy-in. Like the saber tooth tiger, it has a fur texture that can be a challenge when addressing seam lines. Fun build.

Good News! Atlantis has done a reissue of the Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Cave Bear.

Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Saber Tooth Tiger
Yesterday, I completed not one but two of the Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Saber Tooth Tiger kits. I had oridinally only planned on doing one but since the kit came with two sets of legs and two bases and I had the additional parts, it made sense to do two. This was a trip down memory lane. I had built this as a child.

Good News! Atlantis has done a reissue of the Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Saber Tooth Tiger.
